Where is Alligator Point?
It is in the panhandle of Florida, 30 miles south of Tallahassee or 5 ½ hours south of Atlanta on the “Forgotten Coast!” It is off the beaten path, surrounded by over 4000 acres of award-winning Florida State Park! It is the “Real Florida” where you may see more deer and bald eagles than people!
Will you make an exception for my pet?
We love animals but have chosen to provide a pet dander free home, so we don’t make exceptions.
Do we have to rent from Saturday-Saturday?
During the Spring, Summer and Fall, we typically rent our house every single week. If we make an exception to this rule it costs us an additional week, so we rarely make exceptions. Occasionally in the fall we will have a couple weeks that don’t book. If it is within 2 or 3 weeks of the date of your stay – we will consider an exception.
Is there a house between The Heavenly Sunrise and the beach?
No! Just an unobstructed view of the Gulf of Mexico!
Are there restaurants around The Heavenly Sunrise?
Yes…excellent seafood restaurants are just over the bridge in Panacea. Angelo’s is right at the bridge and the PERFECT place to watch the sunset over Ochlocknee Bay. About a quarter of a mile past that is Tropical Trader Shrimp Company with reasonably priced lunch and dinner specials – known for their shrimp tacos. The 50 year old local favorite is a couple miles down – Posey’s Steam House and Oyster Bar. The BEST Shrimp, Oysters, Grouper and Hushpuppies around. Be prepared – it is VERY casual! Check out the links for all of these restaurants and more on the About Alligator Point page.
Is there a place to rent boats on Alligator Point?
No! The closest boat rental is about 20 miles away! Find out more on the Local Info page.
Is there enough parking for us to bring a boat?
Yes, bring your boats, kayaks and paddle boards! There are 2 free boat launches on Alligator Point and a Marina. On choppy days, I take my paddleboards over to the Alligator Harbor Aquatic Preserve and paddle board with the dolphins! There is the Tucker Lake Kayak Launch where you can kayak through the salt marsh on Chairs Creek and out into the Ochlocknee Bay. Check out the Local Info.
Do you have a grill?
Most of the time…. This has been one of the biggest problems we have not quite solved! The cleaning service will NOT clean outdoor grills, so we have to rely upon the guests to clean the grill after they use it! This has been a problem. Also, we buy 2 gas grills each season due to the corrosive nature of the salt-air! Please let us know if it is time to order a new one when you get there! The Dollar General in Panacea does sell small charcoal grills, also.
Are there alligators on Alligator Point?
There could be in the brackish salt marshes but alligators do not like salt water so you won’t ever see one on the beach! The name comes from the shape of Alligator Point from an aerial view! It looks like an Alligator tail!
Is there a store close by?
Just over the bridge in Panacea, there is a small local grocery store, a Dollar General and Crum’s Mini Mall that sells everything from beer, bait, souvenirs and hardware. There is a Super Wal-Mart in Crawfordville, 20 miles away, along with a Beall’s Outlet if you need a new outfit or bathing suit. Tallahassee is 30 miles away where you can find anything you might need or want.
What are the bed sizes?
Two bedrooms have a Queen size bed, one bedroom has a full size bed. The kid’s room has a bunk bed that has a twin top bunk and a full size bottom bunk. There are also 2 four inch thick floor mats with comforters and pillows for children and a Pack and Play. The couch also sleeps one adult very comfortably. The house is not designed to sleep 12 adults, but to sleep 2 or 3 families with kids. You can see photos of the room at the Inside the Heavenly Sunrise tab under photos.
